We have to come clean… We did a small invitation-only test gig of the Violator Show by at the Gecko bar in St Leonards. This was to try out the show and the tracks live.
We were pleased to receive the support of our friends including the Vile Electrodes and Sarah Blackwood from Client and Dubstar. We’re also very pleased to say Alan Wilder sent his best regards too and wishes us the best for the London show.
Thanks to everyone who came to the intimate venue.
For several years now Speak and Spell have had a successful fixture at the O2 Academy in Islington. 2015 was expected to be different but we could never expect to what degree.
We are proud to announce that the Violator Show has sold out on pre-sales tickets alone. This is unprecedented for us and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone.
As a result, the promoters and venue have relocated the show to the main room (800 capacity) room at the same venue. This is to allow for continuing advance and door tickets.
We’re currently discussing further Violator shows, in addition to London and Oslo. Watch this space.
After delivering the Speak and Spell album for TEC003 programming started on a project to perform Violator in full for the 25th Anniversary. Programming took a full 5 months with rehearsals beginning in February 2015.
The shows first full public outing is planned for the 25th April at the O2 Academy in Islington.

In tribute to one of the seminal albums of the 1980s Speak and Spell performed the album of the same name at TEC003 for The Electricity Club.
The project was underway in early 2014 for a September gig and we quickly decided to reproduce the album (plus tracks from the era) from the ground up using analogue synthesizers.
The set was then delivered using vintage technology, including analogue sytheizers (including a period Roland Promars and almost period Sequential Sixtrak). The backing tracks were delivered frosh from tape (yes actual tape) from a Revox B77 reel to reel.
Thanks to all those who came to Banbury last night.
Fabulous night and of course we think that is the first time we have been physically restrained from leaving the stage
Big thanks to Nuway Army for their Gary Numan Tribute. We were very impressed, heard nothing but positive feedback and are certain to be working with them again.
We are already planning a return visit. See you there.
The ticket link for Banbury is now working.
Apologies for the inconvenience but you can now buy tickets here
We were very proud to play Glastonbudget 2014 and very pleased with the professionalism of the event organisers.
An interesting time all round with the band converging on the venue and running operations from our Motorhome.
We were also particularly pleased with the photography, buying shots from two of the pro agencies there.

Speak & Spell are sad to announce that due to a communication issue between local Promotor & Venue our gig at King George’s Hall, Blackburn has had to be postponed.
The local promoter and venue are busy issuing refunds and we would like to sincerely apologise to who were all looking forward to the gig.
We would like to reassure you all that we are working hard to obtain a new confirmed date in the autumn. See you all soon!!
At the long awaited TEC003 event Speak and Spell will be performing the ‘Speak & Spell’ album in its entirety plus a free aftershow party with an additional set from SPEAK & SPELL celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the DEPECHE MODE live album ‘101’ bolstered by special guest vocalists for a truly unique occasion.
The event is headlined by Vile Electrodes and with special guest DJ SARAH BLACKWOOD and DEPECHE MODE memorabilia care of DEB DANAHAY.
Mesh to Headline Bas 2014
We’re getting pretty excited at the prospect of playing Bas again for the 4th consecutive year on 20th June 2014.
The ‘Bas’ events were started in 2010 as tribute to Depeche Mode and the connected Basildon acts. Besides the gigs there have been all manner of other events from bus tours and memorabilia displays plus of course giving devout Depeche Mode fans a chance to visit the fabled stamping grounds of Clarke, Gore, Fletcher, Moyet and Gahan, meet and befriends a lot of their old school mates and get a bit closer to the legend.
The event has changed somewhat since the first year and has seen bands such as Blancmange and Heaven 17 involved. Speak and Spell have proudly been with Bas since it was first discussed in concept and supported it all the way through, headlined the final nights.
But this year we don’t mind stepping aside to headline the Friday instead with Modovar because then we get to kick back and watch the mighty Mesh on Saturday with support from Sinestar.
Mesh are a serious electronic act with an international following they richly deserve. In fact we are certain their 2013 album ‘Automation Baby’ was one of the best albums of the year along with releases from Depeche Mode, OMD and Vile Electrodes. Check out the official Mesh website
Tickets for this event ARE selling out fast. That isn’t a cheesey sales line as the Bas ticket office is now reporting extremely good sales in only a few days. So If you are planning on coming along, get in early, get your ticket secured and book your hotel (they also sell out and get more expensive as time goes on).

Come and see the new Speak and Spell show and get this chance to see a band who are from our perspective one of the UK’s top electronic act.
